Neighborhoods Bainbridge Island shorelines border the main body of Puget Sound on the east, a large protected embayment on the west called Port Orchard Bay, and two passages -- Rich Passage on the south end of the Island and Agate Passage on the north end of the Island. The 53 miles of irregular coastline include numerous bays and inlets. In contrast to the shoreline, the interior of Bainbridge Island is quite hilly and laced with pastures and meadowlands. When first becoming aware of the Island, most people conjure up images of homes with water views, Seattle skylines and ferry boats. Though there are many properties fitting this description, there are also amazing homes blessed with lush evergreen surroundings and rural acreage. Or, if an active-community living is more your style, downtown has its lively restaurants and art galleries. To help acquaint you with the Island, I've listed the neighborhoods with a brief description highlighting the predominant feature of each area. For the purposes of this Website, the Island is divided into four general, geographical neighborhoods: North, Central, Downtown Winslow and South. Let's explore the neighborhoods beginning at the north end of the Island and head south.
