Grand Forest On September 17, 1991, the voters of Bainbridge Island approved a ballot proposition to authorize the Park District to purchase 240 acres of Department of Natural Resources property located between Miller road and Mandus Olson Road. The property comes in three parts, and includes second-growth forests with an estimated 54,000 trees plus wetlands and wildlife habitat to be used for walking and equestrian trails. Various Eagle Scout projects in the Grand Forest have provided trails, a state-of-the-art bench, and trail signs. The Bainbridge Island Trails Committee was responsible for the bridge pictured above that spans a stream in the forest. The Grand Forest includes a two-mile signed trail accessible from Mandus Olson Road, a one-mile trail that parallels Miller Road accessible from just north of Miller and Tolo Roads, and several other unsigned trails used by residents over the years. |
